Rocky beat NPL powerhouse in Night Series
Rockingahm City played their second Night Series fixture against Perth SC at Litis Stadium in warm and testing conditions. In an entertaining game, and at times end-to-end, Perth had the first clear chance at goal, striking the crossbar from 12 yards. Rockingham were the first to the bouncing ball after the ball was finally cleared, who then counter attacked with pace, for Van Dieken to be fouled just outside the box. With the resulting free kick, Van Dieken curled the ball around the wall but struck the post to keep Rockingham out. Towards the end of the first half Rockingham conceded a penalty, but Brincat saved the initial plenty and would eventually clear the flurry of chances resulting from the initial penalty save.
In the second half, Rockingham would take the lead from a penalty given 12 minutes into the second half after Hodgkiss was brought down inside the box. Rockingham's Harmer made no mistake from the penalty spot to fire City into the lead. Moments later, substitute Millard cut inside and sent Harmer through on goal who made no mistake against the helpless on-rushing Perth SC goalkeeper. Further opportunities presented themselves for both sides, but Rockingham ran out 2-0 winners, and now sit top of Pool 1 with 6 points and 4 points clear of third.
